The team's theme of the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge this year is:
ACCOMPLISHING YOUR DREAMS, AND THE DUALITY OF 22
X is for...
Well, indeed, what is X for? Few letters in the alphabet are as difficult as X is. When I set out to write this post, I did some internet searching. I looked for synonyms of "dream" that included the letter X. I figured that even if the words didn't start with X, I could still use them in some clever way. Except...there were none. On an entire webpage of 160 synonyms and antonyms of "dream," there were 7 Xs on the website, most of them in ads and footers, and two in one of the "use the word in a sentence" locations. I went back to brainstorming, and I thought:
Dreams aside, what is your favorite X word?
For my own blog, I am using Rebekah Loper's book The A-Zs of Worldbuilding for my A to Z posts, so I was able to borrow (with permission!) her word: Xenial. Every time I see it, I have to remind myself of its meaning: of, relating to, or constituting hospitality or relations between host and guest and especially among the ancient Greeks between persons of different cities.
As I create my fictional world for my next novel, it's an important thing to think about, and also something to think about as we work toward our dreams. How do the relations with our guests and acquaintances impact the success of our endeavors? Are there expectations we should make ourselves aware of ahead of time? These are important things to ask ourselves as we work toward our dreams!
So please share with us our favorite X word, and maybe its meaning. It's good to learn new things! (And if you're interested in Worldbuilding, Rebekah's book is an excellent help!)

X & Z are two tough letters so I've cheated slightly.
ReplyDeleteToday's post: X Is For eXercise
I love the word Xylophone because I love the instrument, I love the memories of childhood toy xylophones but I also love the way "phone" having to do with sound, is incorporated into the word.
ReplyDeleteI didn't cheat for X but I did have to go to some foreign names for the ingredients...

An interesting post, Jayden. As another AtoZer pointed out xylophone is a good word for X; I used it in my A to Z in 2014.

I put X and Y together :)

I like that. And I love learning new words!
ReplyDeleteRonel visiting for the A-Z Challenge My Languishing TBR: X
Howdy all. We are nearing the end of a season. I creeped myself out with todays X Words
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Dean that X and Z are hard, however I did learn a thing or two about Xylophagous critters.
Have a great day.
Cheers,
Barbie
Not being restricted by needing to connect to a particular theme I was able to pick a random word:
ReplyDeleteX is for Xenopus

I decided to go with Xena today since I am focusing on women's interests this year. Of course, the word I usually think of is Xylophone.

You're right. X is a difficult word to write about. I like your word - Xenial.
ReplyDeleteI blogged today about Xenophile- means someone attracted to foreign people and cultures. And it's antonym Xenophobia which is the dislike of people from other cultures.
I'm using "fake words" this year from a random word generator...and I have selected Xlf...using it as a child's name. Although it is a fake word, it has become a favorite x word now. I may name a dog or cat Xlf someday.

Really helpful down to the ground, happy to read such a useful post. I got a lot of information through it and I will surely keep it in my mind. Keep sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm in favor of 'x marks the spot' -- kind of sliding into an x-related (not x-rated) meditation related to that April writing challenge (poetry, though I didn't follow A-Z, probably should have since I feel like I'm running out of ideas with only 2 days left). Thank you for visiting and making me smile!
ReplyDeleteX has always been hard for me!
