C is for Candy #AtoZChallenge 2023

#AtoZChallenge 2023 letter C

Resilient candy.

My area of the world is near the Just Born candy factory in Bethlehem, PA. Local stores are flooded with Peeps. What can these marshmallow candies endure?

"Peeperiments" (Peep experiments) include various acids, water, and microwaving. (πŸ’₯ I don't suggest trying the microwaving test. It's fun to watch, but not to clean.) Could Peeps "survive nuclear fallout"? Probably not. If they are kept in an airtight container they will last for up to two years.

On a personal note, as evidence of my own resilience, the second book in my Existence series was released TODAY!
Proof of Existence is on Amazon- amzn.to/3ZZ1WM6. There's a giveaway for a blanket or character name on my blog.

Will you celebrate #PeepsDay tomorrow, April 5?
What candy do you think is the most resilient?

#AtoZChallenge Dream of Victory

#AtoZChallenge 2022 tribute badge #AtoZChallenge 2022 Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter

The team's theme of the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge this year is:
ACCOMPLISHING YOUR DREAMS, AND THE DUALITY OF 22

Dreams are potential; they're what could be. Because you dream them in your mind, they're real to you. That's a kind of duality— potential versus real-to-only-you. If you were dreaming about doing the A to Z Challenge before April it was in your mind, and if you finish the challenge in a few days, getting a VICTORY, it will go from potential to actual.

"Holographic duality is a mathematical conjecture that attempts to connect theories of particles and their interactions and the theory of gravity."
https://bgr.com/science/astronomers-discovered-whats-inside-a-black-hole-for-the-first-time-ever/
Check that out. Scientists have been dreaming of figuring out what's inside a black hole. Thanks to some duality, that dream might come true, meaning a victory for the scientific community.

Have you ever wondered about black holes?

#AtoZChallenge L IS FOR LAST

#AtoZChallenge 2022 tribute badge #AtoZChallenge 2022 Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter

The team's theme of the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge this year is:
ACCOMPLISHING YOUR DREAMS, AND THE DUALITY OF 22

Welcome to L in the A to Z Challenge! Former Challenge co-host Alex here to tell you why L is for LAST.
#atozchallenge Alex

Last sounds for final, so ending. And we might feel like we’ve reached the last.

Maybe you feel like this is the last Challenge you can handle. Maybe today is the last letter and you’re tossing it in.

But what if it’s not the last? What if you just think this is the last? After all, humans are rather stubborn creatures. We don’t like to lose, either. We might say this is the last, but then the mind goes to work telling us why we just can’t quit now, why this isn’t the last time. We let those natural instincts to succeed take over and guess what—this isn’t the last.

My last full length novel came out in 2015, and outside of some short stories and published articles, I thought that would be the last one. I held on to that belief for a long time, content with it. Until an idea came to me, and I realized I wasn’t satisfied with the word last. I knew I could write another one. And I did—CassaDark, my fifth novel, was published earlier this month.

So, if you’re thinking this might be the end, the last post you do for the Challenge, think again! If I can write an entire novel, you can manage another blog post. You can write another two weeks of blog posts! Make that your goal—Z will be the last.

Alex J. Cavanaugh works in web design and graphics, and he plays guitar in a Christian band. A fan of all things science fiction, his interests range from books and movies to music and games. Online he is known as Ninja Captain Alex and he’s the founder of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group.

CassaDark
By Alex J. Cavanaugh

His world is unraveling…

Bassan’s father is stepping down from command. His best friend almost dies when Bassan freezes. Now, he’s being sent across the galaxy to speak at an important conference. Despite saving the eleven races years ago, he’s paralyzed by fear and doubt. Could things get any worse?

Once there, new acquaintance Zendar convinces Bassan to visit his planet for a humanitarian mission. Bassan’s special connection to ancient technology is the key to saving Zendar’s people. One problem though—it’s a prisoner planet.

On Ugar, he discovers things aren’t so straightforward. As each secret reveals itself, the situation grows more desperate. If he can’t find the right answers, he might die along with Zendar’s people. Can Bassan summon the courage to be a hero again?

Twenty Questions for J Lenni Dorner ( #AtoZChallenge )

Time to meet our A to Z Team captain, J Lenni  Dorner!   Here's what I want to know and maybe you might be interested as well.   Hello, J!

#AtoZChallenge 2020 Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter T

Twenty Questions for J Lenni Dorner:

1)  Why did you start blogging in the first place?

The A to Z challenge! I found it while surfing around and knew I wanted to take place in the next one. It looked like a great way to connect with people online, and yup, it turned out that it totally is!

2)   How has blogging been helpful to you?

To give me a place to express myself. Also, as I learned more, it became a way to refine my "author brand." Blogging has also given me a reason to write more short stories.

3)   What brought you to the A to Z Challenge in the first place?

The sense of community online.

4)   Why would you recommend A to Z to other bloggers?

To connect with other bloggers and to set a goal for yourself. Finishing something, even a month of posts, feels a lot better than quitting your own blog. The challenge gives you a reason to write, the optional theme aspect gives focus, and the timeline gives a deadline. Hopping around gets you a community, entertainment, and new knowledge.

5)   Besides writing, what interests consume you the most?

There are several. Reading, obviously. Being out in the woods. I was really into Pinterest (until the number of ads quadrupled). I tried photographing inanimate objects for about a year. I like to try new activities and explore new interests.

If anyone wants to suggest a new possible hobby, activity, or interest in the comments, that'd be awesome!

6)   If you could choose one place in the world to visit at this time of your life, where would that be?

Armando al Pantheon- Screenshot from Google - March 2020
Armando al Pantheon- Screenshot from Google - March 2020
This is normally easy to answer. But... Armando al Pantheon in Rome is closed right now.

I've also always wanted to go to Mount Sinai, in Egypt. (Gebel Musa / Jabal Musa) See the sites, ride a camel, climb to the top, take the 3750 steps back down. It just seems like a really interesting experience.

But travel is restricted (as of the day I'm answering this), so right now I'd just like to go back into the woods. Actually, on any given day at any given time, I just want to go back into the woods.

7)   How do you get to your happy place?  (What relaxes you or allows you to find the greatest calm or focus?)

The woods, going there is my happy place. Go beyond where the cars go by, past the well-worn trails, into the rare spaces where the trees outnumber the people. Where nature is still wild. A place where clocks and calendars don't matter much. πŸŒ²πŸŒ³πŸ‡πŸ¦πŸ»πŸ’πŸΊπŸ¦ƒπŸŒ³πŸŒ²

8)   If you could spend a few hours in conversation with any person, famous or not, who would it be and why?

The Grandfathers, the Lenni-Lenape from thousands of years ago. Our legends have been passed down. But there was a whole time period (the mid-1700's until the late-1900's at least) when our language, culture, history, and stories were outlawed. Many of my people died to keep the legends I grew up on alive. As much as I appreciate that incredible gift, I'd love to be able to go back in time and learn them first hand. So much was erased. I'd love to recover those stories.

9)   What would you consider to be the consummate form of artistic expression?

Truth, and anything that brings an unexpected truth to the audience (even if the audience is only the artist). This is why we sometimes remember creative expressions differently. (Apologies to every teacher who has had to make students remember anything creative with perfect accuracy.) I've written flash fiction where the main character was male, named after an ancient male deity; ask a dozen people who read it, ten will tell you the character was a woman. We see what we need to see to find a truth in the art, one to which we can relate. Any artist who helps their audience find that has given the world the ultimate gift.

10)   What innovations of writing might you expect to see in the future?

The return to carving in stone. πŸ˜† I'm mostly kidding. But if you digest too many dystopian and apocalyptic stories, you might notice a trend where all the digital information is inaccessible. And then bad things happen to paper. Break out the chisel, kids! πŸ˜‰

Here are a few lightning round questions:

11)   Sweet or salty?

πŸ§‚ The majority of my favorite foods are salty.

12)   East or west?

Toward the sunrise (east). πŸŒ…

13)   Travel or home bound?

Travel πŸš…πŸš•

14)   New York City or New Mexico?

The original lands of the Lenni-Lenape include NYC!
πŸ™

15)   Books or movies?

Text in print πŸ“š

16)   Fiction or non-fiction?

Tall-tales  of fiction. (Though I presently have published two works of fiction, the novel Fractions of Existence and the short story Lumber Of The Kuweakunks, and two works of non-fiction, Preparing to Write Settings That Feel Like Characters and Writing Book Reviews As An Author: Inspiration To Make It Easier.)

17)   Plays or poetry?

Taylor, Edward - poetry

Almost done!   Here are a few more to enlighten us with:

18)    What do you see in your blogging future?

The new blog needs several years of posts. I see me writing them, perhaps with a bit more focus on certain topics this time.

19)     What are you currently working on in your writing life?

Too many projects. I know I need to pick one and focus. πŸ’Ž Oh look, something shiny! 🀣

20)    What do you see as your biggest project/achievement still waiting ahead of you?

To finish writing, and to publish, the rest of the Existence series.

Thanks Team! ( #AtoZChallenge )

The A to Z Team wants to thank all participants and supporters of the Challenge.  Without you A to Z would not be what it is.  On a personal level I want to give a hearty thank you to our great A to Z Team who keep the Challenge running smoothly.

#AtoZChallenge 2019 Tenth Anniversary blogging from A to Z challenge letter

We're celebrating our Tenth Anniversary here at the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge.

#AtoZchallenge. The blog hop that made an online community by asking bloggers to spend the month of April using the English alphabet as inspiration for their posts. We're glad you stopped by today.

                                         ***********************

If you're looking for someone to thank for this year's Challenge then don't be heaping any praise on me.   Maybe I seem to have been a bit withdrawn from the A to Z this time around and to a great extent I have.  If it weren't for the A to Z team this year this Challenge might not have gotten off the ground with the success we have seen thus far.

Over the past couple of years we have downsized the A to Z Team from what it had been in the past and it's worked pretty well in my opinion.  We've had some outstanding A to Z Team members in the past and this year we've had one of the tightest most efficient teams yet. They're all Challenge veterans who've gotten the routine down to a science.

So my most expansive thank you to our team captain J Lenni Dorner who with great competency took the reins of this 10th annual Challenge as I've dealt with some distracting personal matters.  J, you're the best and hope you'll stick with us in the coming years.  Also, my thanks to Jayden R Vincente who has done a fantastic job setting up the sign-up lists and maintaining them.   Another big thank you goes to John Holton who has provided technical assistance to make things run better as well as his continual efforts to promote A to Z.  And finally there is Zalka Csenge VirΓ‘g who has been a key A to Z Team member since 2015 and provided valuable promotional support for the Challenge.

I hope everyone who reads this post will take the time to visit the blogs of each of these members to say thank you.  I'm sure they'd appreciate that.

        Thank you Team 2019!

                                           **********************

Today's featured book and author:

Runaway

Author Name: JR Vincente
Age category: Erotica
Genre: "Choose Your Adventure"/ Erotica

Brief description:
Join Aralyn as she runs from her past in this Erotic Choose Your Own Adventure novel. Aralyn leaves town when her life is turned upside down. Your blood will race as you explore a new town and new people with Aralyn. She might even get to explore a BDSM Dungeon! Make your own choices and find out.
Runaway a #MustRead on the #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop!

Why did you take part in the A to Z Challenge the year that your book was "given life"?

A friend of mine recommended the challenge and I thought it would be fun! I loved the idea of the readers participating.
Yeah. We have that same friend. I brought her in, she brought you in. This is a real community.

Why did you start blogging?

Because of the A to Z Blog Challenge. Someone recommended it to me and I needed a blog to participate!
Same mischievous friend again, I presume.

Do you have any other books coming out soon?

Soon! I have written another book stemming from that A to Z Challenge I'm in the process of editing.

What other books do you have available?

I have two erotic novels that are not Choose Your Own Adventures. My debut novel is called Slave and my newest release is Y is for Yes.

#WriteTip

Take constructive criticism. Ask someone else to read what you write and listen to what they have to say.

Where did the idea for this book come from, other than the alphabet and the challenge?

As a writer, I was often gripped with indecision as to what decisions to make. This put the power in the reader's hands!

What writing goal do you hope to accomplish this year?

I hope to publish B is for Blackmail and write its sequel.

EXCLUSIVE TOUR CONTENT: Scene/ Excerpt

“Chilly,” she said with a shiver.

“I know,” he said with a smile. “We wouldn’t want the ice to melt too quickly, now would we?” She raised an eyebrow at him, but she wasn’t entirely sure she understood what he meant. “Can we play?”

“With the ice?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said.

“Okay,” she said, a little too eagerly.

As a reader, what most motivates you to buy a new book to read?

A catchy title or synopsis.

Tell us, A to Z blog readers, what did you think of this tour? Should we do it again next year?

Why did you take part in the A to Z Challenge the year that your book was "given life"?

As I said in my 2015 theme reveal, I wanted to inspire and teach others. I also hoped to make new friends. It was also the first year I volunteered to help the A to Z Team (joining under Arlee's Ambassadors).

Why did you start blogging?

This is answered in my very first blog post. "You may wonder why I started a blog. I may wonder that too! Actually, this blog was started because I heard about the A to Z challenge from some nanowrimo friends."

Do you have any other books coming out soon?

Yes!
"WRITING BOOK REVIEWS AS AN AUTHOR:
INSPIRATION TO MAKE IT EASIER"
is up for pre-sale.

What other books do you have available?

Fractions of Existence, an Urban Fantasy.

Is the Setting a Character in your writing? #writetip from @JLenniDorner Read more here: http://writeeditpublishnow.blogspot.com/2015/11/wepff-winner-j-lenni-dorner-talks.html

Where did the idea for this book come from, other than the alphabet and the challenge?

The idea came from some post by literary agents during a MSWL chat. They were looking for books where the setting was a character. I knew how to do that, so I turned it into a month of blog posts. Then I figured I'd also make it into a book.

What writing goal do you hope to accomplish this year?

My biggest writing goal this year is to publish two books in 2019.

First Annual #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop!

Today's featured book and author:

Twisted Tales

Deborah A Stansil Author Image #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop! Author Name: Deborah A Stansil
Age category: Adult
Genre: Horror

Brief description:
Twisted Tales is a collection of twenty-seven short horror stories. Ranging from crazed stalkers, killers, dealing with the Devil and everything in between, this collection shows the darker side of human nature in all its black glory. Journey through the twisted minds of the central characters as they make their choices, and watch their lives spiral out of control. Hate them, empathise with them, and stay on your guard. There’s a dark streak in all of us just waiting to come out.

Twisted Tales a #MustRead on the #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop!

Why did you take part in the A to Z Challenge the year that your book was "given life"?

I did it for the first time the year before and I loved it and I really wanted to get my fiction out there. Twisted Tales was my first book!

Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to get back into writing for an audience. It was only ever going to be a short term thing, but I fell in love with it, and here I am, four years later.

Do you have any other books coming out soon?

I have a new novel coming out this year hopefully

What other books do you have available?

Twisted Tales 2, Twisted Tales 3, The Joker, The Mirror, The Asylum Tour, Lacey Patrick and the Wizard of Darkness, eBook Like a Boss, Start Your Blog Like a Boss, Optimise Your Blog Posts Like a Boss, Parodies and Piss Takes.

#WriteTip

Just write. A first draft is just that. Let your words flow and go where your mind takes you without focusing on perfection. Perfection comes much later.

Where did the idea for this book come from, other than the alphabet and the challenge?

Partly from observation of human nature, partly from my own twisted imagination ;)

What writing goal do you hope to accomplish this year?

I want to finish up the novel I'm currently working on and write a new short story collection. I'd also like to write at least one more non-fiction book and get started on another novel.

EXCLUSIVE TOUR CONTENT: scene

That piece of writing caused more trouble for me than I could ever imagine. It cost me my friends, most of my family and of course my freedom. They feed me the platitudes – “it’s for my own good” “they want to help me”. None of them make up for my freedom. I’m not in prison, at least not in the traditional sense. I’m in an institution for the criminally insane. It’s no different. How can it not be prison when I’m not allowed to leave? I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me take you back to how it all happened. After all, it’s not like I’m short on time.

Do you have any other books coming out soon?
This is my current new publication.

Preparing to Write Settings that Feel Like Characters - Amazon and Smashwords

Brief tip on writing:
Here's a motivational quote of mine about when you feel like giving up on writing.
#WriteTip motivation to not quit writing by @JLenniDorner

Where did the idea for this book come from, other than the alphabet and the challenge?
The idea came from interviewing so many debut authors at Operation Awesome. I noticed that some authors reviewed a lot of books, and others had never written one. I set out to inspire those who didn't write reviews. It turned out to be long enough for a month of blog posts (this coming April). Then I noticed I had enough to make a reference book.

What writing goal do you hope to accomplish this year?
My biggest writing goal this year is to publish two books in 2019.
