A to Z Advice from Jolie Du Pre

“Jeez! I don’t understand it.  Another A to Z, and, once again, her posts are perfect.”

* * *

It’s 2016, and soon we will enter a new Blogging from A to Z Challenge.  I’m proud to report that this will be my fifth consecutive A to Z.

Back in 2012, I remember how nervous and apprehensive I was about my first challenge.  How in the heck would I blog for 26 days?  But even though I had reservations, I knew that the challenge would be the perfect way for me to bring attention to my blog, Precious Monsters, which was new at the time.

I was right.  I couldn’t believe how many visitors were coming to my blog, and I had a great time reading and responding to the many comments.  If you work A to Z, it works for you.  Visit the blogs; leave comments; have fun, and you will be rewarded with bloggers stopping by your blog to see what you have to say.

One thing you will notice during the A to Z Challenge is that every blogger has their style.  Some bloggers are extremely organized, put informative content in their posts that are the result of lots of research, and schedule their posts way ahead of time.  As a Type-A personality who wants everything perfect, even though it never is, I’m jealous of these bloggers.

I want to be organized.  I want to include posts that are researched and filled with information. I want to schedule my posts way ahead of time.  But every time I try, I’m good for the first couple of weeks.  Then, I'm right back to my frantically attempting to keep up.

It’s always the best-laid plans for me when it comes to the challenge.  I always complete the challenge, don’t get me wrong, but never the way I want.

So what do you do if you keep trying but don't make it?  Beat yourself up for it?

I'm proposing that you don't.  In other words, try to stick to your plans for Blogging from A to Z, but don’t feel bad if you fail.  The event is a "challenge", but it's not meant to be stress-inducing.

That said, you would ease most stress if you do schedule your posts.  So do give it a try.

My goal is to write one blog post on Saturdays and one blog post on Sundays on up until the event begins.  If I stick to my plan, I’ll be done by the beginning of April.

I’ll start on January 9:

1/9 – A
1/10 – B
1/16 – C
1/17 – D
1/23 – E
1/24 – F
1/30 – G
1/31 – H
2/6 – I
2/7 – J
2/13 – K
2/14 – L
2/20 – M
2/21 – N
2/27 – O
2/28 – P
3/5 – Q
3/6 – R
3/12 – S
3/13 -  T
3/19 – U
3/20 – V
3/26 – W
3/27 – X
4/2 – Y
4/3 – Z

I’ll have to work hard to stick to my schedule.  I’m a busy article writer, and I’m the author of the Pierce vampire books.  (They're a mixture of horror and paranormal romance. You can try my series for free because book one is permanently FREE.) Of course, because I write about vampires now, my A to Z theme is vampires!

It’s a new year, and it’s time for me to start again.  However, if I don’t follow my plan for scheduling my posts – there will be no negative self-talk about it for this Type-A.   If I don’t make it, if I’m scrambling once again to get all my posts up, in 2017, I’ll try again to be more organized.

Sign-ups for the Blogging from A to Z Challenge begins on January 25.  So stay tuned!

Our thanks to Jolie Du Pre for this excellent advice.  What are some methods you've used to prepare for the Challenge?   Do you plan ahead of time?

Attention: Give Us Your Best Excerpt! Paranormal Romance Blog Hop

Give Us Your Best Excerpt! Paranormal Romance Blog Hop

Hello!

Happy June! Have you recovered from the A to Z Challenge, yet? It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too, right?

This year was my fourth year participating in the hop, and every year I get a bit more organized. I wrote most of my posts in advance, which helped significantly. Maybe for 2016's A to Z Challenge I'll have all of my posts written in advance. We shall see.

In any case, there's rules, of course, but there is no ONE way to take part in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge. So don't get too frustrated with yourself if your performance wasn't as fantabulous as some of the other bloggers.

One of the things I'm never able to do is visit ALL of the blogs during the actual challenge. So I appreciate the Post A-to-Z Road Trip. It gives me the opportunity to visit every blog that I was unable to visit during the hop. My goal is to hit at least five blogs a day. So by April of next year, I'll be all caught up for the 2016 event!

In the meantime, I have a blog fest to announce for all you fellow paranormal romance authors out there. I'm sure there's an excerpt that you've written that you just absolutely love. Don't be shy! Show it off to paranormal romance readers and the world.

Give Us Your Best Excerpt! Paranormal Romance Blog Hop is happening on July 14, 2015. For the day of the hop post your favorite excerpt from either a paranormal book that you've published, OR, a work-in-progress.

Readers love to read excerpts. So give them your best! Use this hop as a way to promote your book or to drum up interest in your work-in-progress. (I'll be posting an excerpt from my upcoming paranormal romance novel The Layneworth Monsters. It's available for preorder at Amazon for 99 cents until July 10, 2015.)

Visit the Give Us Your Best Excerpt page to sign-up! I look forward to reading your excerpts!

Jolie Du Pre Blog Tour: Litria, a new novella in the M-Series

Please give a warm welcome to Jolie Du Pre who is stopping here at the A-Z on her blog tour promoting her exciting new series of paranormal books, starting with the novella Litria.  I don't want to give anything away, but wow, wait until you read her premise. This is a book I'm adding to my Kindle right away. Give her a warm Alphabet-loving welcome with lots of comments, and bloggy love.

Running A Successful Blog

Blogging is a great way to share your opinions, your life, information on almost any topic or virtually anything else you can think of using the World Wide Web. Chances are you want your blog to shine and to be set apart from the rest. Since there are so many blogs on the Internet, there are some things you need to do to make your blog unique and successful.

As a horror/paranormal author and reader, I created my blog PreciousMonsters to blog about all things monsters and to meet other horror/paranormal readers and authors. It's also been a great way to meet bloggers in general. So far I've been pleasantly surprised at the number of hits my new blog has received. However, I knew my blog would not be successful unless I followed some basic rules.

Choose Your Topic Wisely

If there are a million and one blogs about model airplanes, you probably do not want to start another one. Do some research and find out what is currently trending in the world of blogs. Choose something that is popular, but don't choose the most popular topic.

Blog Regularly

Once you have your topic chosen and are ready to blog, you need to be sure that you make regular posts. In order to keep an audience, you should have new content for them to enjoy. If someone comes to your blog and continues to see the same post, they will stop returning. On the other hand, if readers come back and find something new, they will continue returning to find out if you have made a new post. We're all busy, and it's easy to put our blog posts aside for awhile. I've done it many times, but let's try not too.

Respond to Readers' Comments

As readers begin to comment on your posts, respond to their questions, concerns or general comments. If they ask a question, be sure to give them an informative answer. By taking the time to interact with your readers, you are showing that you care about what they have to say. This will keep them coming back as they start to view you as a friend.

Promote, Promote, Promote

Readers will eventually find your blog, but it will take longer if you don't promote it. You don't have to get crazy with promotion. Choose a few of the most popular social networking sites and call it a day. I promote on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. In addition, one of the best ways to promote your blog is by joining a blog hop. The Blogging from A to Z Challenge was one of the best things I've participated in for my blog's success.

Who’s lurking in Layneworth?

It’s the Buscettos—a charming family who live in a nice house?

Not quite.

The Buscettos look human, but they’re not human. They’re Zxxtergins, a type of little-known monster who has roamed the Earth since the fifth century. The youngest Buscetto, beautiful eighteen-year-old Litria, is in search of gorgeous females for sex, followed by food. Her nightly behavior wrecks havoc, causing her family to fear exposure and resulting in grave concern, extra work, and late nights for Layneworth detectives.

When nude and mutilated dead women appear, almost daily, across Layneworth, Detective Brenda Martin, and her partner Robert Moretti, are on the case. The mayor, before his untimely demise, preached to beware of werewolves, and few believed him. But as the killings increase, Brenda thinks she may have more than just a serial killer on her hands. Will Brenda discover the true monsters, and what happens if she does?
