#AtoZchallenge 2020 Anamnesis

Welcome to the eleventh year of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge! The team decided our theme for this month's posts here would be a take "2020 visions of blogging." Our first weekday posts focus on:
Memories from Blogging in the Past

Which brings us to the post title I used today:

Anamnesis
  • the recollection or remembrance of the past; reminiscence
  • the remembering of things from a supposed previous existence
  • the ability to recall past events; recollection
  • used as a narrative technique in fiction and poetry as well as in memoirs and autobiographies
  • recollection, remembrance, reminiscence

This topic is special to me because I started my blog specifically so I could take part in the A to Z Challenge. I've since moved my blog, but Twitter never forgets! My first year, 2012, I did a month of posts about myself, and a month of posts about characters from my Fractions of Existence book. (The posts were mostly about the side characters.) Yes, I had the crazy idea to do two themes, to double post all month. The result? A lower comment count on both sets plus twice the work for me.

Find @JLenniDorner on Twitter

But my own posts weren't what kept me coming back for more. It was the community I found and the friends I made. I'd love to know how many of you have a comment from me on your April 2012 posts! It's great to remember why we started blogging and to see how far we've come. I hope you'll leave a comment over the next few days with your own memories of the blogging past.

Rightly said by Rom, "Anamnesis" is a new word for me too. So a learning from the go itself.

Anamnesis - a new word for me. i am sure this will be helpful for the blogging that we all do.

Finally it started. I am scared and nervous - I haven't been able to complete the last few years of the challenge and I am hoping this year would be different, given the fact that every one is at home and so am i.

A new word for me. But it feels familiar. Perhaps,it's because my theme this year for the A to Z challenge is a trip down memory lane.

Thanks for schooling me on Anamnesis. I hope there won't be a quiz at the end of this month because I'm sure I'll forget by then what this word means. Heck, by the end of the day, it'll be pushed out of my brain. :)

I'm doing it again for the 7th year and whenever y'all have time please stop by to check out Cathy's Pinup Girl A to Z Challenge Art Sketch Series and while you're there I hope you'll vote in my newest #BoTB. Stay safe, healthy, and have a doodletastic day, my friends!

It’s always a treat to learn a new word, thank you. And thanks so much for continuing this yearly tradition, it’s a highlight of my year.

Great new word and theme. I'm actually writing here because I've sent a message to the main email and to the Facebook messenger account and not heard back yet (and the Challenge has started). Since you guys are super busy, I thought this might be the place it gets seen. I have had some technical issues with my website/blog and the easiest fix was to move the blog to the main page. That means that my blog address has changed on the main list. I write as Shari Elder, its number 338 on blog list, and the new link needs to be sharielder.com. I can't see a way to change it, since its a view only document. Can you update it, or provide me a way to do it? Thanks for getting this organized. I am happy to be part of it.

Tamara said...

The word sounds similar to amnesia - which is just about the opposite, right ;-)

Great to kick off another A -Z season!

I'll be talking about all things Swiss, starting my series with A is for Alps:

A lovely word and a fun lens to view the challenge through. I wasn't around in the early years, but I've done a number of them now and it's one of my favorite things about blogging. The personal challenge to write (and I do it day of), but most especially the community. Happy April!

Last time I used the word "anamnesis" was to name a spell in one of my campaigns... some ten years ago. I remember hearing the word in an episode of The X Files, hehehe

On my side, "A is for Amonkhet", and I take advantage of an egyptian-based fantasy setting to create really terrifying mummy-like monsters.

Sundeep Ananth Dubey-
The A to Z Team no longer uses Linky. We use Google Forms for the sign-up, which generates a Google sheet. As requested by hundreds of former participants, the sheets allow editing, have a space to include social media links, includes categories, have a space to mention the theme, and have an area for keeping track of your commenting.
This website has detailed instructions, in both video and written format, on how to use these.

Frédérique-
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YphbP47JyH_FuGPIIrFuJfAQiBBzacEkM7iBnq6DGDA/edit?usp=sharing
There's the OFFICIAL Master List.
If you wish to make your own Linky, we can't stop you. There are currently 465 people signed up. You should expect more will come in the next few days.
If you make a Linky - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. Please make sure that everyone who encounters YOUR Linky knows that it is YOURS, and to contact YOU with any issues and problems. (You should expect to hear from quite a few people. I'd suggest starting another email account.) You're about to take on the same amount of work as an entire team. PLEASE make sure everyone knows that the Linky is YOURS and that the A TO Z TEAM cannot help with it and does not consider it to be official, and that signing up on it WILL NOT put them on the OFFICIAL MASTER LIST, and that their number on YOUR Linky might not match their number on OUR OFFICIAL MASTER LIST. Also, if someone uses your Linky and goes to one of the Adult Content pages and you didn't mention it was adult content, prepare for a backlash. We still have people mad at us for not being able to change information on a different website for a challenge that we don't run that also happens to use the alphabet in April.
All that being said, best of luck to you in the effort, and I really do mean that because I hope it works out for you. The A to Z Team didn't pay to renew our Linky subscription because we found Google offered a free service that included nearly everything that people were asking for, so we aren't going back.

Shari Elder -
Fixed. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Frédérique (again) -
Shari Elder's link was wrong. Make sure you update your linky.
And Nancy Smith needed her link updated - That's https://h2hsc2020.blogspot.com/
And http://a-creative-mind.com is no longer in the challenge, so delete that.
And https://wilburstravels.com/ needed a link update.
And we have someone pretending to be someone else to get one of the links removed from the challenge and another link switched to their own blog, so watch out for that nonsense.

Like you, I switched names under which I have written... and yes, for me too, as I was off for a few years, thankfully twitter doesn't forget! Great idea and you have taught me a new word for the day! I am sharing memories of a sort as well with the theme of Retro... A is for the Atari 2600! Looking forward to reading a lot of great posts over the challenge :)

Thank you J., but I don't want to run a linky party if you do not allow it. You are the organizing team, and this is your baby. Don't want to spoil anything.
As a quilter, we use to have linky parties, and everyone link his own post if he wants to. My goal was to let people do it by themself, and gather all the "real" A posts (as quite a lot on the Master list did not post today). It was an experiment, and I should ask you way before today (but I guess I'm like all of you, a little too busy these days with all this crazyness around us).
Sorry!

Frédérique - It's fine. We tried doing separate sign-ups for each day, but that didn't work for most people. We've been refining this for eleven years, checking every year how people feel with reflection posts (and the after survey), trying to find what can make the most people happy. I just wanted you to know the scope of what you were about to undertake so you didn't drown.

I'm glad so many people like my word choice!

An intriguing post - "Anamnesis" is certainly a new word to me. Yet, it rightly reminds me of 'amnesia' - which the MC in my WIP has. And her recall approach is 'anamesic' in many respects.

I didn't join A to Z until 2014, but comments from others have led to me following some great blogs. Unfortunately, I now struggle to read all the posts I should in April. Apologies everyone.

Anamnesis is a new word for me and I am so glad I came to know about it. Remembering the past is important. It has so many lessons. I am still learning from my past mistakes in blogging and hope this year becomes the year where I am finally able to rectify all my past blogging mistakes and improve myself.
